Driving Courses

Your driving course is designed to help you develop your skills whilst keeping you safe and secure.

You will start your driving lessons in a quiet area, where you will learn:

  • Cockpit drill.
  • Moving off.
  • Stopping.
  • Slowing down.
  • Changing gear.
  • Steering.
  • Steering a course.
  • Road positioning.
  • Mirror, signal, manoeuvre -position, speed look.
  • Basic junctions- turning left and right.

As your driving course progresses you will be introduced to:

  • Hill starts.
  • Meeting other traffic
  • Passing parked cars/obstructions.
  • Driving in light traffic.
  • Road signs, road markings and traffic lights.
  • Awareness and planning.
  • Emergency stop.

Some pupils are more confident, and some require more time to develop coordination and skill. Each individual driving course will be tailored to meet the needs of the individual and develop their driving skills.

As you develop your driving skills you should find you are able to think more for yourself, making safe decisions and remembering when to check mirrors, indicate, slow down, change gears etc. The overall goal is for you to be able to drive independently safely. Ready for your driving test and future driving.

Further into the driving course, as your ability increases you will cover:

  • Roundabouts.
  • Busy roads.
  • Complicated Junctions.
  • A roads- National speed limit.
  • Dual carriageways.
  • Planning.
  • Independent driving.
  • Following road signs.
  • Following Sat Nav.
  • Reversing.
  • Turn in road.
  • Parallel park.
  • Forward Bay park.
  • Reverse Bay park.

The driving course will also cover:

  • Preparation for the driving test.
  • Mock driving test.
  • Use of auxiliary controls as needed, Wipers, lights, heater etc.
  • Show me/Tell me safety questions.

Some people may already have some driving experience from previous driving lessons or practice. Your driving course will be tailored to meet your needs and develop the areas you need to improve on.

Driving course location.

Driving lessons will usually start in a convenient place near your home. Areas covered are south East Kent, Dover, Hythe and Folkestone. As you progress through the driving course, you will drive to Folkestone to practice, this is where you will be doing your driving test, and there is a good range of various suitable roads to practice on.

For intensive or semi intensive driving courses we will drive further around Kent to enable you to gain more experience.

Driving course duration.

There is currently no minimum or maximum no of lessons to learn to drive. The driving course will  vary, depending on previous experience, knowledge and skill.

The driving course can be completed as a week long Intensive driving course, semi intensive driving course spread over a few weeks or month, or weekly driving lessons spread further.
